Benefits of Business Writing skills:

  • It is very helpful to be successful in the business world. Today you need writing skills in business as trade is done with the other organizations also.
  • Important for students and employees both. Students who know how to write in the business world are surely going to get a good job. Employees can use it in getting promotion in the firm they are working.
  • No matter working or not, you need to know how to write properly. Faulty and incorrect writing can lead to a bad impression of the business on the reader's mind.

Benefits of Social Media Writing skills:

  • It helps to create awareness of mistakes and prevent them. In social media writing we make mistakes as we write fast but afterwards we correct it. This helps us to know the correct spelling and increases our understandability.
  • Focusses on short writing. Usually short writing is not a good writing skill but it is very much helpful in writing quickly and save time. It enables us to communicate speedily without any type of faults or confusions.
  • Develop new words and meanings. By communicating on social media, we come to know about new words and their meanings. We can also improve our vocabulary with the help of social media writing. By reading different post we can develop our creativity and understand new words and phrases.
  • Differentiates writers. By writing on social media one can come to know how much writing they have. If they need to improve their writing skills to get a good job in the future.

Similarities between social media writing and business writing

Though Social media writing is different from business/Formal writing they have some commonality in them:

  1. Whether you are communicating with your friends, family or any employee or superior, try to be simple and clear. Using simple and meaningful words can help understand the idea of the message more clearly, to the audience .
  2. Tone is very important to clearly portray the idea of the message. There should be a serious tone while reading the message.
     
  3. The communication needs to be clear and precise.
     
  4. The use of language also plays an important role. Though social media writing doesn't need proper language, as communication is done through emoji's, reaction and all that. Sometimes improper language can lead to a wrong impression on the reader's mind.
  5. Spelling and grammar check is also very important in both the writing's. Incorrect words can create a wrong writing impression on the reader's mind. Wrong spelling and grammar mistakes can lead's to wrong image of your brand.
  6. Identifying your audience is also very important in formal and informal writing. By knowing the reader you try to write content which is appealing to him/her, which creates an interest for the reader to read your writing.
  7. Try to communicate with the purpose in mind.

What is Social media writing?

It is a way of communicate with your friends & family. This is a writing done in a way that the reader love to read. The use of short forms (like How r u?, r u Ok?) is done to communicate. We use it in our day to day life. It portrays the message to the reader in a way that is understood by the reader very quickly and it saves time of both with the use of short forms instead of words. 


 What is Business/Formal Writing?

It includes a wide range of different formats and writing jobs. The writing done in the business world, in a very professional and meaningful way. It is used to deliver the message to a large number of people so it is done in an appropriate way, by using proper words and phrases. The use of  economical words is very important in business writing. It should be appealing to the audience. It can be internal(Employees working in the firm) or external(Consumers of the firm, other Organizations) communication.

Conclusion

We can conclude that social media writing and business/formal writing is different from each other, but at the same time some points proves that they have some similarities. Both are different from each other. Each one of them have their own format, way of writing and presenting to the audience. It is not like that you should only have formal writing skill is very important if you are working. Social media writing skills are also very important as it is used by us in our informal (personal) life. Writing skill is also a very important part in the business world. 

To sum up, points you should remember while doing business writing:
  • Appropriate format
  • Correct words
  • Spelling and grammar check
  • Add photos & videos for more clarity
  • Proper presentation as per the audience
While on the other hand, social media writing have to be done as per the liking of the reader. It also requires the use of correct words and grammar. Avoid using jargon which creates a confusion in the reader's mind. Social media writing don't have rules or anything like that. It is done sometimes to have fun or with a particular purpose. It is also important of have social media writing skills with business writing skills. 

Both of them helps us to polish our writing skills as well as in improving our communication skills. Sometimes you can learn to communicate properly if you can write properly.
